Expectations
Time Commitment
-
Interns must complete office hours and will be assigned weekly shifts in Pride Alliance. Interns completing 2 credits must complete a total of 120 hours per semester, which averages to 8 hours per week, and interns completing 3 credits must complete a total of 180 hours per semester, which averages to 12 hours per week.
-
Interns must complete their office hours in the Pride Alliance office or at Pride Alliance events, unless otherwise arranged.
-
-
Interns must complete a mandatory orientation and training on Monday January 7, 2013 (from 12-5pm) and Saturday, January 12, 2013 (from 10am-8pm)
-
ALL Interns must be available every Friday from 3-5pm for the weekly Intern meeting and on Wednesdays from 5-7pm for the weekly Pride Alliance General Meetings and Events.
-
These meetings are MANDATORY for all interns
-
Interns may miss one meeting during the semester if advance notice (48 hours) is given.
-
-
Interns will be expected to spend some of their time tabling on the mall and engaging in other outreach efforts. A specific schedule will be determined during the semester, but in general, tabling is mandatory and is typically from 11am-1pm on weekdays.
-
Interns are expected to attend a minimum of half of Pride Alliance and LGBTQ Affairs events throughout the semester, and attending more is preferred. This means that you must put all events on your calendars at the beginning of the semester or as they are planned and prepare to ask for those dates off work or from your other commitments.
-
If you know you must miss a meeting or office hours, you must give 48 hours notice.
-
Interns are expected to continue to engage in professional development opportunities throughout the semester; opportunities will be shared throughout the semester.
Email:
-
Most day-to-day communication is done via email. As an intern, you must get in the habit of checking your email every day.
-
It is expected that interns read and respond to all emails and phone calls from Pride Alliance and LGBTQ Affairs members within 72 hours. This means as an intern, you must check your email every day and respond, even with a short sentence like, “Got it!” or “I understand and I can do that!,” within 3 days.
-
Interns must cc their point person for every project/event they are working on. Interns will know who their point people are and are required to cc them on all correspondence unless otherwise decided (which is rare). This means that ANY communication done via email MUST be cc’d to one of the Student Directors or the Program Director.
Evaluations and Paperwork:
-
During the first week of the internship, interns will:
-
Submit a copy of their contract with the appropriate academic department OR completed EDL paperwork to Internship Supervisor (Jennifer Hoefle)
-
Meet one-on-one with Internship Supervisor to agree upon site specific requirements for internship, including chair positions
-
Submit a 2-page Goal Setting Paper
-
-
Throughout the semester:
-
Interns must submit monthly time logs by the last day of the month
-
Interns are required to meet with the Internship Supervisor for a mid-semester evaluation
-
-
End of the Semester Requirements for Interns:
-
Interns must submit a Reflection Paper (3-5 pages in length)
-
Interns must complete a final time log
-
Interns must submit a "how-to" for all events and projects completed during the semester
-
End-of-semester evaluation with Internship Supervisor
-
Finally, an internship cannot be fulfilled until all requirements are met. If your projects are not complete, if you have not completed your office hours, or if you have not attended half of the semester’s events by the end of the semester, you will not pass your internship—which would entail receiving a failing grade for the semester.
